OCTOBER 2003 AUCTION

Following a successful inaugural sale on iGavel.com, Litchfield County Auctions was very pleased to team-up with iGavel for a second time. This sale ran through October 26th, 2003 and culminated in a “Live” exhibition on the final weekend of the Auction:Thursday, Oct. 23 through Saturday, Oct. 25. The exhibition was held at The Litchfield Fire House, 258 Rte. 202 in Litchfield, CT.

This Fine Art & Antiques Estate Auction featured Estate property from a variety of owners. It included a wonderful New York City Oil on Canvas by Guy Carlton Wiggins, entitled “Mid-Town Winter” and estimated at $20-30,000. There was Modern Art from an East 56 th St. estate, including a painting by Enrico Baj and New York City etchings by Armin Landeck as well as Joseph Pennell. Antique furniture came from several estates including Sutton Place and New Milford, CT and included an 18th Century Highboy, a Queen Anne Oval Maple table, a Louis XV rectangular table and an 18th C. American Chippendale Walnut Bookcase Cupboard. A collection of very good Porcelain, Ceramics, Glass and Silver came from another NYC Collector and included a pair of Flight & Barr Worcester Porcelain Vases, one dated 1800, 2 Wedgwood plates and vase, a Buccellatti silver Rhino-form cigarette lighter and various other English and Continental silver and porcelain. Finally there was a group of Antique Paintings, many from the collection of the University of Hartford, including a Johan Mari Henri Ten Kate (1831-1910), & from another collector an enormous painting of a windmill in a storm by Andreas Achenbach (1815-1910).

It was a very eclectic sale that also featured such miscellaneous items as 2 Early Hand Colored Map Engravings, 1 by John Speede, a Walt Disney Studios Gouache Celluloid “Pluto in Water #4”, a pair of 17/18th C. Italian/ Venetian bronze Doorknobs & a 19 th C. Bronze Eagle Doorknocker.
